Why we created MOAO

Miaplaza, the founder and operator of MOAO, has been on a mission to help children flourish through exceptional learning experiences for over 20 years. Because Miaplaza developed its curriculum in the homeschool space, where family needs drive every decision, MOAO benefits from instructional content designed first for effective learning and then aligned to state standards, rather than the other way around.

However, some families that have used and love our curriculum find that homeschooling is not the right fit for them long-term, because they need more structure and academic support. MOAO offers the best of both worlds: students get dedicated teachers and the structure of a traditional school without sacrificing the scheduling flexibility and home-based comfort that make independent learning so effective. It's the support of an online school paired with the freedom families need. MOAO is an extension of our core mission to provide great learning experiences for students, homeschoolers or otherwise.

What You Need To Know

Frequently Asked Questions

Parents are critical partners in the success of students at MiaPrep Online Academy of Ohio. You know your student better than anyone and you are the only one in the room while they learn. School staff will need your help to ensure that your student is logging in every school day, completing their school work, attending teacher office-hours, and asking for help when they need it. We will send you regular reports on your student's progress, including grades, Checkpoint assignment completion, and progress towards the required 920 hours of learning per school year. If your student starts to fall behind, you will need to work with the school’s staff to get them back on the right track.

To help us improve MiaPrep Online Academy of Ohio and better serve your student's needs, it’s also important that you respond to our family feedback surveys and communicate your successes and challenges at the school.

One key difference is cost, since the homeschool programs are paid for directly by families whereas MiaPrep Online Academy of Ohio is fully covered by state funds. Students at MiaPrep Online Academy of Ohio also gain access to certified teachers, one-on-one support from academic advisors, and more variability in learning formats through Checkpoint assignments. Whereas parents who use Miacademy or MiaPrep set up and manage their student's curriculum, students at MiaPrep Online Academy of Ohio have their curriculum managed by school staff.

As a public school MiaPrep Online Academy of Ohio is also bound to regulatory requirements such as documenting 920 hours of learning per student every school year, a free laptop lending program for students, IEP and 504 plan accommodation, truancy enforcement, and the administration of state testing once per school year.

MiaPrep Online Academy of Ohio is shaped by its operator, Miaplaza, which created learning platforms including Miacademy and MiaPrep and serves over 130,000 homeschool student across the country. Miaplaza's history serving homeschool families allowed it to build a learning platform that prioritizes individualized pacing, engaging instruction, and true mastery, instead of optimizing for state test scores and one-size-fits-all learning like many online public schools did. This historical difference carries over into MiaPrep Online Academy of Ohio, which was founded with the principle that education can be rigorous, flexible, and fun!

The virtual doors of MiaPrep Online Academy of Ohio will open in August, 2026. Be sure to enroll your student well in advance, as enrollment slots are limited.

We're committed to supporting every student, including those with disabilities. As an Ohio public charter school, MiaPrep Online Academy of Ohio provides all the special education services required under federal and state law. Our dedicated special education teacher and coordinator works closely with families to review, revise, and implement your student's IEP, making sure accommodations are built into their daily learning experience. If your student's IEP calls for specialized services like speech therapy, we'll connect them with qualified third-party providers to make sure they're getting the full support they need.

MiaPrep Online Academy of Ohio provides many opportunities for safe and respectful peer-to-peer socialization. Your student can choose to join the school's extracurricular clubs and interact with other students multiple times per week during office-hours. Your student will also get to meet their fellow students in-person and if they choose to attend field trips.
